It was a hard day on the tracks for the Great Britian Cycling Team today, as seven riders put in impressive efforts despite the heat and worked hard in hotly contested events. Today’s highest British result was 16th from Bethany-Ann Jackson in the junior women’s XCO race.

Junior men’s XCO

Max Standen was the first Brit to take to the course, going out steady and building pace lap-on-lap, gradually making his way through to pack in a great ride which saw him complete the six lap course in 01:11:52 to take 20th place overall.

Junior women’s XCO

A hotly-contested junior women’s race saw Bethany-Ann Jackson hit a strong pace from the off, working her way up from 15th to eighth position by the second lap of the race. Halfway in and Jackson was continuing to rise through the ranks, hitting seventh place with her eyes set on the front race. However, a rear puncture on the penultimate lap ultimately cost her, putting her five minutes down on the leader and finishing 16th overall.

Debutants Evie Strachan and Maddie Moorhouse-Smith gave promising performances with Strachan moving her way through the pack to take 18th place and Moorhouse-Smith riding a consistent race to cross the line in 28th position.

Men’s under-23 XCO

In what was a tough under-23 men’s race, the British riders put in huge efforts to make their moves up the ranks and stayed close together throughout, flip-flopping between themselves regularly. Joe Blackmore and Corran Carrick-Anderson started with confidence, seen in the top-20 riders for the first two laps, until gradually slipping off the pace and further out of the main group.  

Joe Blackmore finished 31st overall, while Corran Carrick-Anderson withdrew from the race on the final lap and Max Greensill, who had ridden a consistent pace throughout, finished in 35th place.
