UEC BMX Series - Round 2 - Messigny-et-Ventoux
Event: 7 April 2013
Report: Eddie Allen

Following her victory the previous day in round one, British Cycling Olympic Podium Programme athlete Shanaze Reade did it again in round two of the UEC BMX series opener in Messigny-et-Ventoux, near Dijon, France.

Reade beat the Netherlands’ Merle Van Bentham in the final to claim maximum points from the two rounds, the Great Britain rider clearly in great form ahead of the UCI BMX Supercross round on 19-20 April.

Reade’s teammate Charlotte Green, in her first year in the Elites, reached the quarter-finals but a fifth place meant she just missed out on progressing further.

In the elite men’s event Olympic Champion Maris Strombergs of Latvia echoed Reade’s double act by taking round two as he did round one the previous day. Great Britain’s Kyle Evans had a great result, recovering from a huge first corner crash in the semis to finish fourth and set up a place in the finals, where he finished eighth, a superb achievement for the first year elite rider. Evans’ teammate Curtis Manaton also reached the semi finals but a seventh place saw him miss out on a final ride.

Following his rollercoaster ride the day before, Quillan Isisdore, GB’s sole representative in the Junior competition, also made it through to the semi finals but a pile-up on the first corner with round one winner and European junior champ Amidou Mir put the Olympic Development Programme rider out of contention.
