Great Britain’s Grace Garner is currently in second place in the junior women’s omnium after three events.
Olympic Development Programme athlete Garner currently sits just four points behind current leader Edita Mazureviciute of Lithuania. Garner took second place in the individual pursuit with a new personal best time and then followed it up with third in the elimination race to leave her with a total of 106 points as she goes into the last three events on Saturday.
“Tough day in the omnium, really happy to get a PB in the pursuit. Currently lying second going into the final day tomorrow!” Garner tweeted at the end of yesterday’s racing.
In the under-23 women’s omnium Emily Kay currently sits in seventh place overall with 86 points after a strong finish in the final event of the day, the elimination in which she placed third.
In the men’s under-23 omnium, Christopher Latham finished in 13th place after all six events. Latham had been in seventh place going into the second day but he suffered badly in the points race losing two laps.
In the men’s junior event, Matt Gibson ended up in fifth place overall after the end of all six events. The Olympic Development Programme rider had been in second after day one but suffered after placing ninth in the flying lap and then being two laps down on the leaders in the final event of the day, the points race.
“Well I don't know what to say about that. A lot learnt for next time! 5th in the end.” Gibson tweeted shortly after the event.
Great Britain podium programme rider Katy Marchant placed fifth overall in the under-23 500m time-trial finishing in 34.969 after the two laps. Academy athlete Rosie Blount finished in ninth place with a time of 35.921.
The Great Britain Cycling Team have won two golds, three silvers and two bronze medals at the championships, which reach their final day on Sunday.
