British Cycling has today launched its first ever volunteer plan to improve experiences for the thousands of volunteers who support cycling activities across the UK.

Running through to Paris 2024 and very much aligned to British Cycling’s strategy to Lead our sport, Inspire our communities, the plan aims to engage, develop, retain, and nurture a new generation of volunteers.

The plan has been designed to focus on diversifying and growing the volunteer network, empowering volunteers, and valuing the significant contribution volunteers make to cycling, as well as seeking to overcome some of the challenges currently faced by British Cycling volunteers.

British Cycling recognises that the sport of cycling would not be as widespread and popularwithout the thousands of volunteers who give their time and energy to deliver activities and events. Volunteers sit at the heart of our sport, and it is essential, as the sport’s governing body, that British Cycling does everything that it can to value volunteers and create an enjoyable environment that encourages more people to volunteer – doing so is essential to the health and longevity of our sport.

British Cycling’s Interim Chief Executive Officer Danielle Every said:

“Volunteers play a vital role at all levels of both British Cycling as an organisation, and cycling as a sport and pastime. Rewarding cycling experiences are not just for participants and competitors; they are for everyone within the sport, and I hope that all of our volunteers will enjoy their time with British Cycling.”
