Over the past decade, children (and young people's) clubs have played a vital role in providing young riders with a safe and enjoyable environment. We’re deeply grateful for the dedication of these clubs, which has not only fostered a love of cycling but also helped nurture the talent we see today in Great Britain Cycling Team.

We are now in the final stages of developing a new award for clubs to help riders of all ages and abilities grow as cyclists and individuals. This framework, featuring four key badges - Balance, Pedal, Rider Challenge, and Advanced Rider - focuses on building technical skills, confidence, and resilience. With a 'stage not age' approach, riders can progress at their own pace.

By connecting this framework to British Cycling’s talent pathway, we aim to inspire participation and offer pathways to advanced cycling opportunities, nurturing the next generation of cyclists.

How will this help clubs and riders?

We believe this framework will inspire young riders to stay engaged, improve their skills, and work towards the talent pathway. It also highlights how cycling can be a lifelong activity.

For clubs, the framework will provide access to valuable resources, including session ideas and best practices, helping coaches deliver high-quality experiences. Clubs will also be able to build and customize their own rider progression schemes, focusing on individual growth.

Why we want you involved

Throughout the creation of this award, we’ve worked closely with clubs and coaches across the country. Now, we’re looking for more clubs and coaches to join us in the next phase!

We’re inviting clubs to participate in a 3-month digital product testing phase. By taking part, your club will help with:

Digital product experience:

  • Real-World Validation: Your club’s insights will ensure the product meets the needs of diverse users.
  • Test Usability: Help identify any usability issues so we can refine the product for a smoother experience.
  • Tailored Improvements: Your feedback will shape the digital experience to better support young cyclists’ goals.

Delivery experience:

  • Engaging, Rider-Focused Delivery: Evaluate how well the framework keeps riders motivated and on track with their development.
  • Integration with Club Activities: Ensure the framework fits seamlessly into your sessions, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Consistency in Awarding: Help maintainhigh standards in the awarding process to ensure skills are recognized fairly, motivating the next generation of riders.

Are you ready to help shape the future of cycling?

We’re looking for enthusiastic clubs to join us in this exciting testing phase! If your club meets the following criteria, we’d love to hear from you:

  • Based in England
  • Actively coaching U18 cyclists
  • Passionate about developing young talent
  • Interested in growing your membership and creating a vibrant cycling community
  • Ready to commit to a 3-month testing period with regular feedback sessions

Don’t miss this opportunity to shape the future of cycling and inspire the next generation of riders! Fill out our expression of interest form and tell us more about your club and why you’d like to get involved.
