Rob Scott (VCUK PH MAS) was the overall leader of the SD Sealants Junior Tour of Wales after an action packed first day of the race, which is the final round of the British Cycling Junior Road Series.
Scott won the opening individual time trial prologue stage, and did enough in the first road stage to give him a 14-second lead at the end of the first of three days of racing around Gwent.
Peter Kibble (Wales) won the first road stage by 13 seconds to leave him second overall, 14 seconds behind Scott in the 36th edition of the race.
Scott won the time trial after posting the quickest time of 12.03.51 on the 7.7-kilometre route from Brynmawr to finish at the top of the Tumble mountain. Scott’s team mates Tom Pidcock and Adam Hartley finished third and fourth respectively, the top three split by Ethan Hayter (VC Londres).
Charlie Meredith took fifth, the Giant CC-HALO Films rider who is currently sitting second to Scott in the overall Junior Road Series standings, while fifth keeps Meredith in with a shout of the title.

Stage Two saw a new route for this year’s race, running from Brynmawr to another mountain top finish at Pen y Cymoedd on the Rhigos mountain, and the route would change the shape of the race after the morning’s time trial.
Peter Kibble timed his late attack to perfection as the race wound its way up the Rhigos climb to claim a home victory for the Welshman.
A tricky start to the stage - due to ongoing roadworks and an early crash in the main field - saw the race held up for some time before it got back underway after a lengthy neutral section.
Marcus Barnett made an early move and gained a good few bike lengths off the front of the race but was chased down before the race hit the first King of the Mountains peak in Bwlch where Alfie Moses (HMT with JLT Condor) nipped off the front of a lead group of eight to take the points.
The group grew to 10 as the race hit the fast descent towards Llanhamlach with another eight chasers, both groups forging ahead from the main field. The chasers were brought back before the second sprint at Libanus but the lead group were settled at some 36 seconds off the front of the race.
Their lead grew to almost a minute as the race went through the feed at Heol Senni, but a burst from Charlie Quarterman (Zappis RT), Alfie Moses, Max Williamson (HMT with JLT Condor) and Matt Draper (Velocity Globalbike) saw the quartet ride away off the front.
As the leading four approached the final sprint at Dan Yr Ogof Caves, Quarterman attacked and soon opened up a 21 second lead, and that lead he increased to 46 seconds over Draper and Moses as they approached the final long climb up the Rhigos.
The peloton caught the two chasers, but Quarterman looked to have the measure of the race. However, it would prove a climb to far for the Zappi’s rider and he was caught.
Daniel Scarffe (IOM Cycling) hit the front, and Ben Hardy, Mark Donovan (Beste Alde La Tostadora) and Kibble went after the leader. Kibble proved to have the legs to move away as the race hit the final bends on the climb to take the win, while Donovan took second and Scarf held out for third from a chasing pack.
