Seasons Greetings
Well I can hardly believe it, Christmas is here once more. A time to reflect on the 2009 season, and also to look forward to what's in store for 2010. For me the highlight was winning the 2009 National 4X Championships. The day started with blue skies and dry tires, Iridium Oakley goggles and short sleeved shirt.
Qualifying went well, I had a decent run and crossed the line with the fastest time. Vitally important as it gave me start lane choice for the whole day. The inside gate is normally favoured for 4X. So I progressed through my rounds well, winning everything up to the final. As I pushed up the hill for the final, there were some very dark clouds on the horizon. Yes you guessed it, they arrived just before the final.
It was the heaviest rain I had ever seen. It turned the track into an ice skating rink immediately. I made a great start and got out front from the start. As we exited the first turn and dropped down the hill, we had very little grip, and that continued to the finish. But to cut a long story short, I held on and took the win with a big gap back to second place. It was a great day and nice to hold it together in conditions where anything could have happened.
So looking forward to 2010, well it's gonna be a great year for 4X. The new track at Hayle Superbowl in Cheshire is going to be amazing. Phil Saxena the World Cup 4X track builder is letting his imagination run wild and creating England's first World Cup standard 4X track. This is going to be the place to go this summer. With big improvements also taking place at UK Bike Park, Chicksands and South West Extreme, UK fourcross is really setting the standard for other countries to follow.
I have sorted all my plans for 2010/11 now aswell. I have signed 2 year contracts with the majority of my sponsors recently, including my key partners Rocky Mountain and Fox clothing. So we will be out there in 2010/11 defending my UK titles and going after the World Cup overalls. A reduced World Cup schedule in 2010 - 8 races down to 6, is going to mean consistency will be vital. There will be no room for errors at all if you want to be in contention come the series finals in New York next September..
Anyway, that is all for now. I will be back in January with an update about my winter training.
