2011 Dalby World Cup: Welcome To Yorkshire
Words And Photography By Luke Webber
Posted May 20 2011
Day two of the Dalby World Cup, and Yorkshire is welcoming the Worlds best mountain bikers in the way only it knows how - with predominantly open blue skies and some of the finest trails.
Venture a little from the forest however, and you're sure to happen upon the reasons why Yorkshire is seen by many as England's beautiful county.
Hedgerows, populated by wild flowers line the country lanes leading to Pickering - Dalby's nearest town.
Continuing the roadside theme; farms display their wares, accompanied by honesty boxes.
Another, more iconic breed of the British box.
Twenty minutes east of Dalby Forest, are the coastal towns of Scarborough and Whitby, reached from the Forest on a selection of winding roads, passing through rural idylls and the Great Yorkshire Forest.
Stopping to admire the view along the way - or indeed for refreshment - is never a problem. Yorkshire hosts both the gourmet resteraunt and Great British pub.
Which in turn, hosts some house martins...
With the journey from coast to Forest complete, it's back to the bike racing.
