Royal London 360 Youth League

Round 11 - Tuesday 30 June 2009
Report: Dot Tilbury

Near tropical conditions greeted the 303 competitors who took part in round eleven of Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man's youth league last Tuesday night.

Alex Butterworth stormed to his tenth successive win in the novices class. Edward Teare outsprinted top girl Chloe Comaish for the runners-up spot, with Francesca Avery leading the rest of the field in for fourth place. Maddie Butterworth and Toby Wylie rounded off the top six.

In the born 2004 & later age group Zac Walker took the number one slot in a very close finish with Dillon Dowson. Third place went to Nathan Slack, who ousted Isaac Kirk in the final dash for the line. Joshua Dudley led brother Cameron in for fifth and Harvey Lawrence finished on his own to claim seventh. James Devereau squeezed out Harry Kneen, William Cawte, Sophie Bolton (1st girl), Bradley Kneen, Lucy Worthington and Aaron Christian in the bunch gallop for eighth.

Percy Hampton broke away from a leading group of six riders to secure a fine solo victory in the born 2003 category. Jonty Bregazzi beat Jake Wilson to the line for second place and Oliver Williams held off Matthew Black and leading girl Darcy Cain for fourth. Madison Nicol was seventh and Haydn Waddington was too fast for Aaron Ramsay, Jack Christian and Seth Coole in the sprint for eighth. Megan Cannell got the better of Matthew O'Neill for the remaining place on the top twelve leader board.

Scoring his maiden success of the series, James Harrison went from the gun in the born 2002 event and retained his lead to the finish. Will Corkill went off in pursuit but in the end had to settle for second place ahead of Fin Samson, who had the edge over Elliot Lawrence, Jamie McCann, Caitlin Christian (1st girl), Charlie Moss and Joshua Mills in the battle for third. Sam Corlett and Ben Haworth completed the top ten.

An early solo bid for glory gave Max Walker his fourth victory in the born 2001 class. Overall leader Adam Scarffe was a solid second and Juan Kneen held off the fast finishing Tyler Cain for third. Matthew Flint was a lonely fifth and Jake Vance rode clear of the main chasing bunch to grab sixth. Cullen Gell forged ahead of Rory Donegan to snatch seventh and Amelia Sharpe led Lydia Glover, Chloe Crellin and Jade Lund home for the girls' prize.

Six riders were in with a chance at the end of the born 2000 three lapper, with Luke Murray eventually getting the verdict over Thomas Bostock, Tom Murray, Sam Batey, Ben Christian and Adam Kelly. Regular top ten finisher Adam Long was seventh and Jed Etchells gradually progressed up the order to take eighth from Harry Cain. The best girl was Olivia Sharpe in 12th spot.

Having fully recovered from the football injury that kept him out of the previous round, Conor Davies was too strong for Marcus Simpson in the sprint at the end of the born 1999 race. Early frontrunners Liam McCann and Kaitlin Slack salvaged third and fourth respectively, while Daniel Scarffe escaped from the group he was circulating with to claim fifth ahead of Joseph Glover.

A last lap injection of speed was enough to give Jamie Dudley a winning advantage in the born 1998-96 grouping. Ashley Faragher was unable to match Dudley's pace and had to settle for second place ahead of Matthew Draper. The hard working Laura Kinley held off a determined Tamara Preskey to take the girls' honours in fourth spot and Juan Hunter got the better of Sophie Black for sixth.

After dropping their three breakaway partners, Owen Dudley pipped Matthew Draper for the honours in the U/10, U/12 racing bikes. Victoria Kinrade did well to hang onto the fast moving duo the longest and was rewarded with a well deserved third place. Breeshey Cain was a good fourth and Conor Davies fifth, with relative newcomer Nathan Draper taking an impressive sixth ahead of Thomas Bostock. The ever improving trio of Dan Watterson (8th), Liam McCann (9th) and Michael Moss (10th) all showed excellent promise.

Alex Haddock made a blistering attack in the U/14, U/16 racing bikes and quickly built up a sizable lead. Thomas Mazzone saw the danger and made a successful attempt to bridge the gap. The two riders worked together to the finish where Mazzone took the sprint. Jack Wolstencroft was third and Jake Kelly the best U/14 rider in fourth place. Twelfth placed Anna Christian beat Eleanor Stokoe for the girls prize.
