Details from the East and West Midlands on how young riders will be selected for the country's top races in 2010.

West Midlands Looking for Regions’ Best Youth Riders

West Midlands Region is proud to be taking a Team of riders to participate in the prestigious UK School Games which in 2010 will have road and time trial as its cycling events.  The West Midlands will also be represented at the second youth Inter Regional Track Championships in Newport.

The UKSG and IRTC will be contested by 13 different regions from around the UK & NI and is a fantastic opportunity for Youth riders to experience high profile competition. The UKSG takes place at Newcastle-upon-Tyne during the first week of September and the IRTC take place in Newport during the last week of September

Given the road and time trial content, selection events for this years UKSG will be the following National Circuit Series Races:

-- 27th March Yarborough Circuit Race (Closing Date for entries 6th March)
-- 30th April Isle of man Youth Tour
-- 8th May Hillingdon Slipstreamers circuit races
-- 29th May North West Youth Tour
-- 19th June Team Keyne Youth circuits
-- 20th June Tudor Grange Park Youth Race
-- 26th June CC Giro Circuit Race

West Midlands top 5 male and female riders in each event will be given 5-4-3-2-1 points irrespective of their actual race position. Riders 5 best performances out of the above 7 races will count for selection.  After the last selection race, our top scoring 4 Male & 4 Female riders will be selected to represent the Region at the UKSG.

In the event of insufficient youth A, then youth B riders may be considered, using the same points system

Selection events for the IRTC will be the following Midlands and Wales Regional Omniums.
-- 24th April Newport Youth omnium
-- 23rd May Unigraph Design BC tandem sprint Championship / Midland Youth Omnium
-- 5th June Wolverhampton Youth Omnium
-- 12th June Halesowen Youth Omnium

Again, the West Midlands top 5 male and female riders in each event will be given 5-4-3-2-1 points irrespective of their actual race position. After the last selection race our top scoring 4 Male & 3 Female riders will be selected to represent the Region at the IRTC.

In the event of insufficient youth A, then youth B riders may be considered, using the same points system.
In the event of cancellations due to bad weather the events to count will be reduced proportionally to cancellations.
The two teams of Riders will be announced after the rider selection deadline of 28th June 2010.

East Midlands Team News

UK School Games: Once again this year East Midlands is proud to be taking a Team of riders to participate in the prestigious UK School Games, this year the UK School Games will be taking place at Newcastle during the first week of September, it will be a Road based event comprising of a:

• Road Race
• Criterium
• Team Time Trial
• Individual Time Trial

Inter-Regional Track Champs: The East Mids will also be represented at the Second Inter Regional Track Championship based at Newport Velodrome in late September/Early October 2010

• Team Manager & Team Coach for this year's UK School Games will be Cathy Morgan & Graeme Waters. They will be responsible for the Team for the duration of the Games & Selection of the team of riders which will participate in the event.
• Team Manager & Coach for this Years Inter Regional Track Competition to be confirmed.
• Both teams of Riders will be made public after rider selection deadline on 28th June 2010.
• There is space within both teams for upto 4 Male riders & 4 Female riders born 1994 or after.

Succesful Riders for the Squad will be expected to attend a pre UK School Games Training Camp in preparation for the big event (More details to follow at a later date)

Riders must also sumbit two ten mile time trial times from events this year - these can be open events or club time trials

Selection for the Inter regional track Championships will be the following Midlands and Wales Regional Omniums.

East Midlands Youth A Team For NW Youth Tour

There's also an interesting opportunity for Youth A riders in the region. This year East Midlands is proud to be taking a Team of YOUTH A riders to participate in the prestigious North West Youth Tour (Part of the National Youth Circuit Series) taking part between Saturday 29th May & Monday 31st May. The race consists of 4 stages including a Time Trial based at Blackpool, Lancaster & Preston. Travel (from rider collection point), Accomodation & Food will all be paid for by the East Midlands Region on this race.

This is a fantastic opportunity for Youth Riders to experience International Stage Racing at a high level of Competition. Team Manager & Team Coach for this years North West Youth Tour are yet to be Confirmed. The team of Riders will be made public sometime after final selection race 24th April 2010, any selected riders that have pre entered this race will have their entry fee refunded.

There is space within the team for upto 4 Male riders & 4 Female Youth A Riders. In discussion with the East Midlands Regional Board, Club Coaches & Regional Events organiser It has been decided that selection events for this years North West Youth Tour will be the following Races:

• 27th March Yarborough Circuit Race (Closing Date for entries 6th March)
• 17th April Thorseby Circuit Races
• 24th April Thorseby Circuit Races

The best 2 performances out of the above 3 races will count for selection. East Midlands top 5 riders in each event will be given 5 -4-3-2-1 points based on their overall position in each race irrespective of actual race position. After the last selection race our top scoring 4 Male & Female East Mids riders will be selected to represent East Midlands at the North West Youth Tour.
