Second in the Junior Paris-Roubaix a few weeks ago, Dan McLay (Hargroves Cycles) won the prologue time-trial in the junior category of the Sleepwell Hotels Isle of Man International Youth Tour on Friday evening. McLay clocked 1 minute 40 seconds for the 1.29km test on an out and back course along Douglas Promenade. Second place went to Felix English (Irish National Team) who also finished in 1m 40s but a few fractions of a second slower than the winner.
Two seconds behind McLay and English was Simon Yates (British Cycling North West Region) who was the winner of the second round of the Junior National Series at Somerset. On Saturday morning, the Junior riders face what is usually the decisive stage of the three day event. The 102.7km Peel road race will be run over 11 laps of a 9.33km course which features the steep Switchback climb. The final stage is a 92.6km race in Ramsey on Sunday.
