HAVING ridden the final nine miles alone, Richard Wood (Team Milton Keynes) proved a worthy winner of the Python Racing Team Summer Road Race near Maidenhead, Berkshire, on Sunday.
Wood was the only survivor of a nine-rider escape group that had led for much of the race, but was hunted down by the bunch shortly after the bell had sounded.

While Wood was savouring his win, behind him the sprint for second spot was in disarray with a crash in the bunch with just 500 metres to go marred the finish.
Cannondale Racing Team's Toby Neave took second, while CC Luton rival did well to hold off Flavio Zappi (Team Zappis) for the final spot on the podium.
