CC Ashwell's Jeremy Ross powered to victory in the Easterley Road Club Falling Leaves Road Race in Essex on Sunday, holding off a string of fellow escapees at the end of the 50-mile event.
Ross, 26 and from Royston in Hertfordshire, crossed the line just three seconds ahead of the Cambridge CC trio of Digby Symons, top junior Felix Barker and Chris Hughes after holding them off on the uphill finish to the Eastern League race.
Some tough hills and a fast early pace proved too much for many of the riders, with 20 failing to finish the six and a half laps.
Several earlier breakaway attempts had come to nothing, but at about half distance five riders did manage to get away and looked set to contest the finish. But on the final lap Ross attacked off the bunch and made it across, eventually going on to win.
