Teenager Alex Bottomley won the third and final round of the Sunderland Clarion Criterium Series at Hetton Lyons Country Park at Houghton-le-Spring near Sunderland on Saturday.
The 18-year-old Velo 29 rider from Saltburn took the win ahead of Whitby rival William Brown, the 19-year-old Blackhawk Bikes rider, while VC Briganti’s Rick King, 34 and from Darlington, took third.
The trio of events have been staged jointly by Sunderland Clarion and Cycling Development North East, and have all proved popular, with the Regional A event running for around 50 minutes and the fourth cats riding for half an hour.
Blaydon’s Giovanni Asoni (Kyklos Edco Racing Team) won the Regional C+ race, the 28-year-old beating Stocksfield 45-year-old Phillip Kennell (EMC), while Seaham’s Antony Dickinson took third.
