Steve Nunn (Finchley RT) did just enough to take victory in the Paul Simon Homes Road Race on Saturday after being chased down on the line.
Earlier in the race, Nunn’s Finchley team mate, Vince Divine, had been away on his own from lap six onwards.
Then, with two laps to go, Nunn managed to catch him and they went on to open up a seemingly unassailable lead over the rest of the field and a Finchley one-two looked inevitable.
At one point, Divine and Nunn were 1:46 ahead of the chasing pack and cruising towards the line.
Then, with four miles to go, the lead was cut to 30 seconds and 100 yards from the line, the pack caught up with the two leaders.
Nunn did just enough to keep first place but Divine was pipped to second place by Joe Higgins (PCH) and had to make do with third.
