Dillon Byrne (Champion System/Maxgear/Base) took his first ever win in the CDNW Road Race League in Lazonby on Sunday.
Byrne’s team-mate, James Knox, and Lee Baldwin (CC/Sett Valley Cycles) had pulled away from the bunch early on.
But on the third lap Byrne attacked and took Michael Ashurst (Biketreks Racing Academy) with him.
It took the pair a lap to bridge across to form a runaway group of four riders at the front. They eventually opened up a four-minute gap. But as the end approached, it was Byrne who got out in front to take the win.
Byrne said after the race: “Me and James took turns to attack near the end and he led the win out for me. I’m really pleased, it’s my first ever win in the CDNW and I’m feeling good at the moment.
“I started the season well and then I had a bad month with a chest infection. But I’m backinto my training now and my strength is back.
“I’ll be entering more CDNW races, there’s quite a few good hilly ones coming up, I’m in good form and I’m aiming to do well in those. I’ve also got the Beaumont Trophy coming up and I’ll look to take my good form into that.”
