Keighley’s Matthew Robinson sprinted to top spot in the Stocksbridge CC Road race held at Penistone School in South Yorkshire on Sunday.
The 33-year-old All Terrain Cycles rider was part of a part of a group of five that peeled away from the front of the field three laps in and pushed on to open up a 1:20 gap.
The demanding course, formerly used for divisional championships, takes in a lot of hills and a strong wind made conditions slightly more difficult.
But the group at the front, with James Bailey (Langsett Cycles RT), William Corden (Lyme RC), Andrew Nichols (Neonvelo.com) and Nick Spencer (Gosforth RC) joining Robinson, were way ahead of everyone else and were going well.
By the time the finish line approached, it came down to three riders in a scramble for the line. Robinson got the jump on Bailey and Crowden to take it with Nichols and Spencer just behind. The gap of 1:20 was now reduced to 45 seconds as the rest of the field came through.
Results:
1 Matthew Robinson (All Terrain RT)

4 Andrew Nichols (Neonvelo.com)

7 Michael Harrison (4 Star Racing) @55 seconds
