It was an exciting day of racing at Kinnoull Hill in Perth on Monday! 50 young riders experienced the thrill of downhill racing. The course was on the new bike park which has been built between a partnership of local riders and the Forestry Commission, with a couple of added twists and turns.
With rollable jumps and berms it was an exciting course which supplied excitement for established riders but also allowed new riders to experience the thrill and camaraderie which is involved in downhill mountain biking racing.
After registration, a safety course walk and practice (& some tasty local venison burgers) the racing started for real at 1pm with competitive fields for all of the U10, U12, U14 & U16 boys and girls races, the level of riding was exceptionally high. After the first round riders knew their times to beat and most pushed it to the edges of their level and improved their times.
Scottish Cycling would like to thank all of the volunteers who without them the day would not be possible, particularly Tay Titans (local cycling club in Perth), Angus Mountain Biking Trails Association/Covert Dirt, Muckmedden, Progression Bikes, Big Tree campervans and Perth City Cycles (who provided bike maintenance for competitors despite coming back form China and not having slept for 36 hours!)
