Scottish Cycling, in partnership with Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland and Womens Adventure Cycling Syndicate, have set up a new project called Women on 2Wheels to inspire more women to get on their bikes.
With year upon year increases of women participating in events and becoming members of Scottish Cycling, the aim is to keep this momentum of increasing participation by inspiring the next generation of female coaches and leaders.
A series of interactive evenings are planned to engage and help women and girls to get involved.
These sessions will explain the coaching and leadership pathways which compliment new and existing projects such as Go Girls, SXC Women’s Coaching and the Scottish Women’s Road Race Series.
Together the partners are in the process of applying for funding which would allow Scottish Cycling to arrange and deliver additional training, support and mentoring.
The project will create and identify new and existing leaders or coaches between spring 2016 and spring 2017 and offer opportunities to be mentored.
Scottish Cycling will also provide additional training to professional coaches and leaders to ensure they provide high quality mentoring opportunities.
Vicky Strange, Head of Development with Scottish Cycling, explains the purpose of the evenings:
“We are looking to bring together women who are interested in helping to grow cycling and mountain biking in Scotland and show them how they can get involved. We hope the evenings will inspire more women to become engaged in coaching and leadership, become role models and help more women and girls access the sport.”
