Scottish Cycling are pleased to announce the launch of a new coach development programme for coaches working in the talent pathway. The aim of the Enhance Coach Development Programme is to develop coaches with the knowledge, skills and attributes required to be effective within this role and provide them with the necessary tools to support more young riders to realise their full potential.

"In order to build on previous success and progress towards achieving our new strategic ambitions, we have decided to increase our investment in Talent Development. As we develop more quality coaches and athletes, we aim to increase the breadth, integration and sustainability of the talent system in Scotland." Gary Coltman, Head of Sport
"Talent Development coaches have an extremely important role that occurs in a complex environment, yet the education on offer often does not meet the needs of these developing athletes. Consequently, many coaches and clubs find it difficult to support athletes at this stage in the pathway, resulting in Talent Development being sporadic and somewhat serendipitous. To change this, we need a different approach. The Enhance programme is the culmination of several years of learning and development and represents a targeted but holistic approach to Coach Education. The programme has been purposely designed with the specific needs of the athlete and person in mind." Craig McCulloch, Coaching & Education Manager
"Club coaches are instrumental to developing our young riders and the performance pathway. Great coaching will keep more riders riding, training and competing for longer, which will increase the talent pool across Scotland. The talent programmes we run through R.A.C.E provide an environment where riders and coaches can push each other but also support, inspire and learn from one another. However, R.A.C.E can only support the work that coaches and clubs do, as athlete development is a consistent, year-round process. For the BC Apprentice programme there is a significant selection of a relatively small number of riders. However, we know that there is more potential talent that could excel given the time, opportunity and coaching." P.J Barron, Pathway Coach
"By working together, we will strengthen the links between clubs, development and performance. This will hugely benefit the riders in the pathway as we share our collective knowledge and experience for the benefit of the coaches in the programme." David Daniell, Sprint & Para Coach
