Update on Scottish Cycling Commission

The volunteer workforce is the backbone of our sport. Our dedicated volunteers not only support club activities and events across the country but also form an essential part of Scottish Cycling’s governance structure. Scottish Cycling’s Event Commissions provide expert help, support and advice to the Board and staff teams and are fundamental to developing the future of the sport of cycling in Scotland.

The structure of Scottish Cycling’s Commissions has remained unchanged for a number of years. Following the British Cycling Commissions Review we have also embarked on a review of the purpose and effectiveness of our current Commissions.

The review started with the creation of a Board Working Group to support the development of a project plan and to consider the scope of the Commissions review. This project will cover the current Commissions and will also consider inclusion of any additional disciplines.

The first stage of the project is to review the current governance structures for each discipline, with a subsequent focus on discipline development once revised or appropriate structures are in place. The Commissions and governance structures for each discipline will be reviewed simultaneously, with dedicated discipline development following thereafter. The aspiration is to have the review completed and proposals submitted by the end of 2020, with implementation of any approved changes in early 2021.

More information will be available in due course, including the opportunity to feed into the consultation phase which will involve the cycling community. In the meantime, if you have any general comments or questions on the commissions and governance review then please do not hesitate to contact Scottish Cycling at events@scottishcycling.org.uk

Scottish Cycling would like to take this opportunity to thank our current Commission members for their commitment and support. We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with them as we identify and implement a revised structure that sets cycling up for future success as we look towards Scotland 2023.
