With just over a year to go until the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, organisers have unveiled the detailed event schedule, allowing fans to plan their diaries.

Birmingham 2022 will feature four cycling disciplines – mountain biking, road, track and time-trial - just like the Gold Coast did three years ago.

At those Games ‘down under’, cycling was Team Scotland’s most successful sport, our cyclists winning no fewer than 10 medals, four of those gold. Neil Fachie and pilot Matt Rotherham won two of those, the pair also setting a new world record in the Men’s Sprint B Tandem, with Katie Archibald and Mark Stewart also triumphing in the velodrome.

Katie and brother John, who took Individual Pursuit silver four years ago, will be amongst the first  Scots to fight for medals (subject to selection) as the Men’s and Women’s IPs take place on Saturday 30th July, the second day of cycling action.

Sunday could see Fachie and Rotherham defend their tandem sprint title, whilst another 2018 medallist, Jack Carlin, will hope to add to his collection of silverware in the Men’s Sprint. All of these track events will be contested over four days at the Lee Valley Velodrome.

Back in the West Midlands, the mountain bike races take place at Cannock Chase on Wednesday 3rd August, the time trials the following day, before the road races round out the cycling action on Sunday 7th August.

With the full event schedule now released, sports fans can see the detail of exactly which events will be held in each of the 286 sessions that will feature at next summer’s Games.

With tickets going on sale in September, Scottish fans can now sign up for ticketing accounts, which will notify them when they will be able to enter the main ballot.
