British Cycling has today unveiled details of its new Regional Youth Circuit Series, which looks to bridge the gap between regional and national racing, and will incorporate the well-established Scottish Youth Series in Scotland.

The five event Scottish series will be coordinated with the other nine series across the UK, in an effort to support riders to progress from local to national competition, keeping more young riders engaged in the sport and widening the number of racing opportunities available to them.

The new series will see some 50 races take place across Scotland, England and Wales, with a mix of new and well-established events have been carefully coordinated so not to clash with existing youth and junior national series events, and build on the success of existing series and leagues taking place across the country.

Through these events, riders will be able to access high-quality racing opportunities closer to home without the need to travel long distances, utilising local facilities and club networks. Kicking off in Fife later this month, the series will span the full road racing season, and take place at different venues across Scotland.

Improving the regional and national racing offer is a core ambition of the British Cycling long-term plan for the road and circuit disciplines, published in May 2021, to improve progression and retention opportunities for riders.

This announcement comes after the release of the Springboard Fund in Scotland last month, a new funding opportunity to support the recovery of cycling events in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The aim of the Springboard Fund is to provide opportunities for new cyclists, from underrepresented groups, to experience the thrill of competitive cycling. These events will act as a ‘springboard’ for cyclists to experience frequent participation in competitive cycling and will be underpinned by the opportunity for riders to develop their competitive cycling experience and confidence in safe and accessible environments. More Information on that can be found here.
