Both the Women’s and Veteran Women’s Scottish Road Race Championships will go ahead as originally planned in 2022, after a new host was found for the latter.
At the end of last month, following the cancellation of the Cairngorm Race Weekend, we made the decision to merge the Veteran Championship into the Women’s event, in order to save the aforementioned race. However we are now delighted to be in a position to stage the two as separate races once more and would encourage all female racers in the Scottish Cycling community to get involved.
The Veteran Women’s Road Race Championships will take place on the originally scheduled date of the 11th of September, and will also incorporate Round 3 of the Scotia Women’s Road Race Series, as had been intended for the Sally Ann Lowe Memorial Race at the Cairngorm Weekend. Further details regarding the organiser and location to follow in due course.
The Scottish National Women’s Road Race Championships will therefore revert to it’s original format, and can also regain it’s National B classification. Entries for the Women’s championship, which takes place at Balfron on Saturday 30th July on a rolling 82km course, close on Saturday 16th July, so it’s not too late to enter.
There has already been some brilliant female racing in Scotland in 2022, with everyone from Great Britain internationals to first time racers getting involved. Racing has spanned the Scotia Series and the British Championships in Dumfries and Galloway, to the events such as the Miltonduff Ladies Day, which featured a ‘Give Racing a Go’ Taster Race. Hopefully we’ll see both the new and seasoned female racers in action at the two aforementioned Scottish Championships later this summer.
Our thanks go to Glasgow Nightingale for their ongoing support with regards to the Senior Men and Senior Women’s Road Race Championships, and our best wishes go to all at Cairngorm CC – we look forward to the Cairngorm Race Weekend returning in future years.
Should any members of the community wish to get in touch regarding hosting a future event, we’d love to hear from you on events@scottishcycling.org.uk
