Scottish Cycling is excited to announce that we have invested in two additional clubs: Edinburgh Road Club and Galloway Hillbillies CC as part of the Accelerate and Activate Programme.
This partnership will see Scottish Cycling and the clubs recruit and deploy a paid role, working 15 hours a week to support the development of the club. These Club Development Officers will have a number of headline outcomes that they will work towards achieving, with particular focus on areas such as membership growth, grassroots events, led rides and the development of programmes for under-represented groups.
This opportunity was offered to all clubs and following submission of business cases and follow up discussions, Edinburgh Road Club and Galloway Hillbillies were successful in joining Deeside Thistle Cycling Club, Falkirk Junior Bike Club, Royal Albert Cycling Club (Clydesdale Colts) and West Lothian Clarion Cycling Club on the programme.
Project Lead for Cycling World Championships and Club Development, Fraser Johnston said: "Accelerate and Activate is key component of our approach to Club Development at Scottish Cycling, providing us with the opportunity to work closely with clubs to make an impact and test new approaches. I'm delighted that we've been able to extend our pilot programme to two additional clubs, and look forward to seeing the benefits that this investment brings to them"
Galloway Hillbillies Club Secretary Gavin McHallum stated "Our club would like to thank Scottish Cycling for their support in providing funding for a Club Development Officer and we are really excited about working in partnership with them. Securing this role provides us with the opportunity to really drive the club forward and deliver on our constitutional promise to introduce, encourage and support people to get out on bikes and look after their physical and mental wellbeing"
Isobel Harris, Youth Convenor at Edinburgh Road club said: “Edinburgh Road Club are delighted to have been accepted onto the Accelerate and Activate Programme and are looking forward to working in Partnership with Scottish Cycling. We hope to find a suitable candidate that will lead on enabling us to achieve our own club aims of enhancing and diversifying our membership and developing our coaches and volunteers, who are the lifeblood of the club.
