We're pleased to reveal the finalists for the #RaceTheWorlds Mini-Downhill Final, which will take place at Fort William on Friday 4th August
Race The Worlds provided an opportunity to bring back the renowned regional Mini-DH series, providing young riders with an accessible pathway into the more extreme of the Mountain bike disciplines.
The series kicked off in Newcastleton on the 13th May, with the Rock UK Adventure Centre team delivering the event on a track they worked hard to create in the lead up. The course provided the perfect stage for new riders to give Downhill a go for the first time whilst also challenging experienced racers to push themselves.
Newly affiliated club, Ae Bike Association, stepped up to the plate to host the South West and West Regional Qualifiers on 27th May as their first competitive event. They did a great job of advertising the event through leaflets in the local visitor centre and schools. Using a combination of established trails at the Ae Forest venue, the event attracted 70 entrants from the two Scottish Cycling Regions, creating an excellent atmosphere.
Deeside Thistle MTB dig crew spent many a weekend getting the Lecht Mini-DH track into shape for their event on the 18th June. The track included some natural stuff, a variety of jumps and drops and plenty of options for first time racers as well as more experienced shredders. Almost 100 riders showcased their incredible bike skills, some racing for the very first time, in what was an amazing event made possible by the brilliant team of volunteers at Deeside Thistle!
The Race The Worlds qualification events were rounded off with a double header of XC Dirt Crit and Mini DH at Laggan on the 1st and 2nd July.
A huge thank you to all the clubs, volunteers and officials that have made this series possible. If you want to get involved in the final too we’re still looking for some wonderful volunteers – we'd love to see you in Fort William. We’ve got a limited number of spaces for volunteers due to this event being ticketed, however volunteers at the final will be given a ticket for Friday 4th August! Please register your interest here.
Congratulations to the riders listed below who met the qualification criteria on the day and have been invited to compete in the series Final next month!
