National MTB Ranking Points Explained
Cross-Country and Downhill National ranking points are awarded at certain events on a scale appropriate to the event's status. World and Olympic Championships attract the highest points and cover the greatest number of finishing positions, followed by World Cups and Continental Championships, then national, regional and local events. The most important national and regional events, such as National and Regional championships, receive double points on the relevant scale.
Ranking points are the points awarded in UCI and BC events. Standings relate to a particular series and may differ in the number of points awarded by BC.
Riders competing in UCI events outside of the UK, not a World Cup, can still have their results count towards their end of season ranking. BC will not seek your foreign results, you must inform results@britishcycling.org.uk by sending the results link from the UCI website.
The ranking points are input at BC HQ. Email your query to: results@britishcycling.org.uk or by calling 0161 274 2012. A rider's database will display all their results in the current year. In XC, the year runs from December 1st until November 30th. In Downhill, the season runs from January the 1st until October 31st.
The database writes back to the web site and shows the ranking points for each category. The database is updated on a daily basis and this will be reflected on the website. The "End of Year Rankings" is calculated using the rider's best 8 results. The remaining results stay on record and will show on the website. Category changes for riders are decided from the "End of Year Rankings".
Full Racing Licence
To gain any ranking points, a rider must hold a Full Racing Licence at the time of the event in which they participate. Non members, or members with only a Provisional Racing Licence, do not qualify for ranking points. Find out more about Full Racing Licences.

Ranking points are not awarded for single speed category races.

Downhill notes

All senior category riders wishing to gain ranking points must race the Senior Non Championships race.
