Sky teams up with British Cycling

We believe that cycling is something that can enrich your life no matter how old or fit you are, which is why Sky is proud to be the Principal Partner of British Cycling.

We announced this multi-million pound partnership in July 2008 which will support the sport in the run up to London 2012 and beyond. From BMX, track cycling and road racing, our partnership will cover all aspects of cycling, from promoting elite teams and supporting the stars of tomorrow.

But it’s not just about champions. We’re investing in every level, including grassroots events in local communities like Skyride Cities and Skyride Local, to schemes in schools. These are all part of our ambitious plans to get more than one million people on their bikes by 2013.

Here’s what some of the big players think:

“British cycling is in the best shape it has ever been in. Under Dave Brailsford our cyclists have dominated the world on the track and now he is looking to work his magic on the road. A British team in the biggest road race in the world – the Tour de France – is an exciting proposition and I wish Brailsford the best of luck with this new venture. I also applaud Sky for their support of cycling in this country and British sport in general.

Andy Burnham, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport

“Sky has a core belief in the power of sport – we want to get people involved. We are hugely impressed by Dave Brailsford, inspired by the success of British riders and excited about embarking upon this ambitious project together.”

Jeremy Darroch, CEO of Sky, talking about Team Sky

“Cycling is already one of Britain’s sporting success stories and this is a truly exciting opportunity to grow the sport even further. Sky is a committed and passionate partner for British Cycling. Working together, we can take elite cycling onto the next level and get more people involved at all levels.”

David Brailsford, Great Britain Olympic performance director
