British Cycling welcomes the recent announcement from the UCI, allocating a new date for federations to organise their national road championships.
We were advised of this new date – the week ending August 23 – at the same time as the general public, and we will now begin to put plans in place to establish the possibility of rescheduling the event, bringing together all the logistical challenges which this will involve.
However, it is also important to clarify that British Cycling will continue to follow UK Government advice when it comes to planning for the recommencement of cycling activities.
We will only consider sanctioning races again when it is safe and appropriate to do so, as deemed by the Government, local authorities and emergency and other frontline services. We will keep teams and riders informed of our plans as they develop, as we recognise they will be seeking opportunities to race before taking part in a national championships.
