In recognition of the impact of Covid-19 on Regional cycling activity in 2021, Scottish Cycling is changing the way we distribute grant funding to Regional Development Groups this year.

The Scottish Cycling grant funding to Regional Development Groups is open for application. Regions can apply for up to £2000 (in the North East this is split equally between Tayside & Fife, and Grampian regions)

Funding Outcomes 

Projects must meet one, or more, of the following outcomes: 

  • Growing capacity of the region to offer coaching sessions 
  • Increase Women and Girls participation 
  • Increase participation for young people
  • Increase participation from underrepresented groups (including disability, BAME, SIMD & LGBTQI+)
  • Increasing opportunities for new cyclists, or those new to cycle sport
  • Developing talented riders
  • Supporting the retention of teenage riders in the sport

The funding could cover any of the following:

  • Supporting individuals to undertake coaching* and MTB/Ride Leadership qualifications. Coaches and leaders are expected to go onto support regional sessions
  • Supporting individuals who may experience challenges in undertaking training as a Coach / Leader / Official with travel and subsistence costs.
  • Welfare Projects and/or training for Clubs within the Region (e.g. Mental Health Awareness, Tackling Stigma in Sport)
  • Facility hire for sessions which would provide opportunities for new cyclists
  • Community engagement activities

*Any coaching courses covered must be discipline specific units.

Funding will not cover:

  • Food and alcohol 
  • Socials 
  • Consumables  
  • Level 1/Level 2/Level 3 Coaching Qualifications as these already receive sportscotland support.  
  • Entry fees for races 
  • Associated travel costs for races 
  • Equipment which is already available for use through the Region 

 

RDGs must develop a project plan that can detail the following:

  • The need for the funding
  • The difference the funding will make
  • Why the project can’t take place using existing RDG funds
