Volunteer of the Year Award Nominations

Aaron Johnson

Aaron has been Scottish Student Cycling (SSC) Chair since May 2020. This Scottish Student Sport (SSS) voluntary role asks for student-informed decisions to steer wider SSS work, event delivery assistance and development of student clubs alongside Scottish Cycling. Aaron has done all this and beyond, with passion and unparalleled determination, already making an incredible impact in a short space of time for example meeting with each club individually to ascertain their needs for the 2020-2021 academic year and implemented plans to ensure as many of those needs are fulfilled.  A strong example of this is in Aaron’s response to the club’s fear of losing students due the unavailability of group rides by beginning weekly Zwift Meet-Ups.

Through his role as volunteer Chair, he helped develop and host a successful Virtual 10-Mile Time Trial Championships which was deemed suitable for SSS medal provision, providing a much needed challenge to all riders who competed.

Liz Fairweather

Liz has been a key part of the team at Glasgow Gals CC working behinds the scenes to help ensure the club did not stagnate and continued to support people with their physical and mental wellbeing. Liz has continued to deal with new memberships and enquires, created a welcome pack, supported and organised social rides and skill sessions and sharing best practice with other clubs and organisaions. She goes the extra mile to support club members with everything from technology to join zoom sessions to recce new routes.

Zosia Martin

Zosia did what many others would not have dared during an international pandemic, she started a brand new female racing club as part of Torvelo Racing Club. Described as the powerhouse and brains of the club Zosia has built it up to have over 20 riders. With the added difficulty of not being able to meet in person, she has helped to bring the new members together as part of whatsapps, zwift and social media until face to face meet ups and rides can being again in earnest.
