BMX Racing is one of the most popular and fastest growing disciplines of cycling. Introduction to Coaching BMX Race supports the development of foundation skills for BMX Racing.


What can I do with the qualification?

As an Activity Coach in BMX Race, you can support riders to development the fundamental techniques for BMX racing on and around a BMX Track and introduce them to racing.

What?

You will be qualified as an Activity Coach – BMX Race and can deliver coaching activities to develop foundation skills for riding in BMX Racing environments, including bike control and balance, front wheel lift, bunny hop, pumping, gate starts, and jumping skills.

Where?

The areas include BMX Tracks, pump tracks and flat ground (non-technical traffic free).

Who?

Up to 8 riders in a session of race specific activities, or up to 16 riders in a session of non-race specific activities.

Requirements

Minimum age 14 years*
Independent coaching at 18 years
Coaching experience Not required, but it might be helpful if you have seen or been involved in some coaching activity, even in another sport.
Riding experience Experience of riding a BMX bike.
Equipment A BMX bike suitable for riding on a BMX track. The bike should be in good working order, with at least a rear working brake. You will also need a full-face helmet and gloves.
First Aid It is good practice to hold a First Aid certificate, if you are coaching independently. If you wish to be covered by British Cycling Coaches insurance, you will need an Emergency First Aid qualification.

This course is the start of the pathway in BMX Racing, and on completion you can then access the Coaching in Context BMX Race course.

The full course cost is £185 for Introduction to Coaching - BMX Race.
