Event: 23 June 2013
Location: Sandringham, Norfolk
The charity Leonard Cheshire Disability has launched Cycle Together Sandringham a new cycle event for West Norfolk.
Taking place on Sunday 23 June 2013, the charity is urging people to sign up and take part, raising funds for Leonard Cheshire Disability’s local respite hotel, Park House, Sandringham.
Norfolk-born Paralympic gold medallist Jody Cundy, who gave up professional swimming to pursue his successful cycling career, said:
“Leonard Cheshire Disability’s Cycle Together is a great idea, an opportunity for everyone, beginners and experienced cyclists alike to get active. So why not sign up, get cycling and raise some funds for Leonard Cheshire Disability?”
The event has been organised by cycling enthusiast Phil Davies, a dedicated Leonard Cheshire Disability fundraiser at Park House, with assistance from local volunteers.
He said: “We decided to launch Cycle Together building on the growing popularity of cycling thanks to the Paralympic success of Jody and his British Cycling teammates.
“Unlike other similar events, this is perfect for people of all ages and abilities. There are short, gentle rides suitable for families or recreational cyclists, or even people who have never cycled before; while the longer rides up to the North Norfolk coast will challenge experienced club and sportive cyclists.”
“Not enough disabled people and their carers in West Norfolk can afford to benefit from the respite care they deserve, and that is why Cycle Together is raising funds for Park House.”
Entry costs just £15 for the 10/20 mile routes and £20 for the 50/90 mile routes with under 16’s accompanied by adults go free. Every cyclist will receive a welcome pack with training and fundraising guides when they sign up. Entry fees also cover free parking, fully sign-posted course, food and drink stations, bike mechanic, first aid, on-course support vehicles and refreshments on-site at start/finish.
