Sunday September 28 is the fourth Lewis Balyckyi Memorial ride.
Like last year there are three rides, all consisting of Lewis’ favourite training rides. There is a family ride consisting of a 16km flat ride to a cafe stop then the 16km return.
A 70k middle distance undulating ride going through Bleasdale and surrounding countryside, taking in one main climb up Butt Hill Lane that is not very steep but carries on for a reasonable distance.
Then there is a 100km route, taking in climbs over the Trough of Bowland, Waddington Fell and Chaigley. This is just over 2000ft of climbing and takes in some stunning scenery.
All the rides start from the Preston Arena where there is ample parking, toilets and we are providing refreshments for all returning riders. There will also be a tombola with some excellent prizes, such as the use of a new Mini for a weekend courtesy of BMW Bowker.
The Cobbled Corner Cafe situated in Chipping is providing refreshments again for us at reduced rates. This has proved very popular in past years as it is located after all the hills and is a natural break point.
All proceeds are going to The Lewis Balyckyi Trust Fund, a registered charity set up in Lewis’ name after he was killed while out on a training ride in 2011. This provides sponsorship for young riders with potential to enable them to train and race at a high level and hopefully gain a place on a pro team. We also support the NW Air Ambulance and work with road safety groups.
