Laura Trott has completed a hat-trick of medals for Britain, finishing third in the omnium at round two of the Track World Cup in Cali, Colombia.
Before Trott's final medal, the British team had already taken a silver in the individual pursuit courtesy of Wendy Houvenaghel's performance and a win in the team pursuit - of which both Houvenaghel and Trott were a part.
Britain's final medal of the competition came as Trott lay fifth in the overall after the first three omnium events, just a point adift of bronze-sitter Ausrine Trebaite, with Tara Whitten of Canada and Sarah Hammer of the USA battling it out for gold and silver.
Event four was the one of Trott’s specialised subjects, the individual pursuit, in which Laura finished third behind Whitten and Hammer, the young rider from Essex posting 3:33.180 for the 3000m. Next came the scratch and fifth place for Trott in the event won by Hammer, who wasn’t going to let up on overall leader Whitten for one moment, the Canadian losing valuable points.
However, in the final event, both Whitten and Hammer had to take a back seat as Trott flew around the two laps of the 500TT in 35.378 to seal bronze with 29 points, a single point behind Tara Whitten whose poor showing in the scratch race cost her dearly.
