Sophie Capewell defended her junior women’s 500m time trial title as the British Cycling National Youth and Junior Championships started at the Derby Arena on Monday.
The 17-year-old, who competed for the Great Britain Cycling Team at the UCI Junior Track World Championships in July, stopped the clock in 35.979 seconds to take gold.
Lauren Bate-Lowe collected silver in 36.131 seconds with Eleanor Dickinson third in 36.623.

Junior men’s individual pursuit
Ethan Hayter was crowned junior men’s individual pursuit champion with a convincing two rides.
Hayter, of VC Londres, qualified fastest in 3.16.875 and faced Velocity Globalbike’s Reece Wood for gold. Hayter crossed the line in 3.19.005 after 12 laps of the track, ahead of Wood in 3.23.338.
Bush Healthcare’s Rhys Britton took bronze, defeating Jake Stewart in 3.22.140.
Female under-16 sprint
Backstedt Cycling Ella Barnwell was crowned under-16 female sprint champion, winning all her heats on route to the title.
Barnwell beat Sportcity Velo’s Ellie Russell 2-0 for gold, Russell having qualified fastest ahead of Barnwell with a flying 200m of 12.417.
Johnstone Wheelers CC’s Lusia Steele took bronze with victory over Chloe Jones of Black Line.
Male under-16 sprint
The sprint title was also decided in the under-16 male category as Lyme RC’s Caleb Hill won, setting a new British record in the flying 200m on his way to the title.
But Hill found himself 1-0 down in the final to eventual silver-medallist Alistair Fielding, before turning the tie around.
Team Corley Cycles’ Ethan Vernon saw off the challenge of Glasgow Riderz Jack Cruden to take bronze in straight heats.
The 2016 British Cycling National Youth and Junior Track Championships run from 1-5 August.
