Brooks Cycles Track League

The Brooks Cycles Track League at Newcastle, Staffs is becoming a victim of it’s own success as the attendance at the latest round of the league was greatly reduced by the absence of a large number of riders who were competing at the National Youth and Junior Championships in Newport (Wales). However, as the medal count for the league from these Championships currently stands at 3 Gold, 3 Silver and 1 Bronze this is a price that the Track Association is willing to pay.
The League event was cut slightly short as it rained just after the 10 mile scratch had started under floodlights. The highlight of the night was the latest round of the Kieren League where a very close finish saw Tom Powell of Newcastle RC 2001 take the victory from Adrian Adgar of Go Sport Spex RT and Andrew Magnier of Planet X. Magnier won the 8 lap scratch, team sprint and the win and out. This gave him 8 points on the night which has now taken him to second place in the overall table, only 1½ points behind the league leader, Declan Byrne, who was one of the contingent at Newport.
In the B Class league, there looks like there is going to be another close finish in the race for the overall title. Martyn Shaw of Lyme RC is only half a league point in front of Joe Turner of Sport City Velo. Joe scored 5 points on this night’s racing and Martyn scored 4. In the Youth League, Joel Partington scored an impressive 13 points as he won all 5 events. Paige Millward also scored highly with 8 points which has seen her move up the overall table. The night also saw two new riders in the Youth section, with Raife Plant and George Edwards of Lyme RC performing well.
