Wolverhampton Wheelers Track League June 30

Every night of the Wolverhampton Wheelers track league proves to be different and so it was for the night's racing on June 30. The theme was ‘endurance’ and the programme included both combined Devil/Points and Team Pursuit races.

The Freewheelers races provided their usual level of enthusiasm and excitement with Matt Lewis taking first in the Points, closely followed by Ben Hardwick and Georgia Hilleard. Meanwhile Georgia’s father Alan made his break too early in the Senior B Unknown Distance event and had to be satisfied with sixth place with the race being won by Pete Hoggetts of Halesowen Cycling Club.

The Points/Devil was won by Andy Jones, Pete Hoggetts second and Chris Brookes third. Team Pursuit honours went to Wheelers Youth members Chris Brookes, Josh Burke and Tim Metcalfe who easily managed to hold off Halesowen rivals Nigel Albutt, Pete Hoggetts and Martin Pockett. The Senior A field was much smaller than the Senior B but the highlight of their races was the Pursuit with Jordan Bason and Jess Wieckowski of Team Nemesis joining forces with Adam Lewis and Tom Masters to overpower Craig Ansell, Jack Hibberd, Pete Hoggetts and Richard Walkerdine. 

The Youth Team Pursuit race was even more exciting with Jack Escritt, James Ireson and Ryan Phillips narrowly beating Toby Robinson and brother and sister Joshua and Emily Nelson. The final event of the evening is traditionally the 10 km Handicap. The means of handicapping this evening gave Jack Escritt the opportunity to take a well deserved first place at the Intermediate Sprint. The full 10km was taken by Jack Hibberd with Jess Wieckowski second and Andy Jones third.
