Welwyn Track League (Aug 6)

The threat of rain did not materialise and those that did turn up at the Welwyn track enjoyed a good evenings racing despite the dull and overcast conditions. Martin Dawkins opened up the proceedings for the Senior A group with a narrow victory over Tony Moye who was making his first track appearance of the season.

The two Senior ‘Odds and Evens’ Block handicaps produced two markedly different races. The Group B ‘Odds’ put in a determined performance to ensure that the chasing A group never got on terms – in fact they caught the tail of the B group with 100m to go but Kristian Woolfe and Ryan Owens were already lined up for the sprint finish won by Kristian by inches. The ‘Even’ numbers in the B group started at a leisurely pace and were caught by half distance leaving the A riders to take the spoils – Phil Lisher leading Mark Smith over the line.

Kristian Woolfe dominated the B Points race with Jon Munns second and showing improving form week by week after a long layoff. Martin Dawkins took his second win of the evening in the A Devil and was in a four man break with Phil Lisher, Lee Desboough and Tony Moye before dropping back to the bunch with 14 laps to go. The remaining trio were half a lap ahead at the bell and Tony Moye took a well earned win from Lee Desborough and Phil Lisher – Kristian Woolfe won the bunch sprint for 4th place.

In a much depleted youth field, Ollie Plumley won all three events in thr Youth A/B section from Sam Gilzean and Charlie Bexfield. The remaining riders rode a series of handicap events with Jack Plumley and Chris Hodges taking the lions share of the points on offer.
