More sibling successes this time at the Fred Williams Cycles Track League with brothers Sam and Dan Morris gaining some valuable points.
Dan who rides in the Freewheelers B won both the Devil and the Points. The combined A and B Italian Pursuit was won by the team that included both brothers and Sam picked up a third place in the A Points.
To quote Wolverhampton Wheeler Dave Cunningham ‘unknown distance races favour the brave' which worked to great effect for Wheeler Tony Deleon in the Senior B race where he made a break and then went on to win in a surprise two lap race. Will Rudgard of University of Birmingham had to work a lot harder in the A event over a longer distance but still benefited from having the courage to make that initial effort.
Rivalry in Youth races remained as intense as ever with Charlotte Broughton (Leicestershire RC) taking the Block Handicap and the points with Wheeler Callum Warrilow having to be satisfied with second place in both events and then in the Italian Pursuit Charlotte snatched victory from Callum's team on the final lap. However Callum's moment was to come later when he took a well deserved second place in the Intermediate Sprint of the 10km Handicap.
The 10km Handicap resumed its customary level of excitement as the climax of a good nights racing. Senior B rider Mark Brown (University of Birmingham) took the Intermediate Sprint ahead of Callum with fellow Wheeler Youth riders Jack Smith, Jessie Ansell and Ben Manfield following. Jack Hibberd (Halesowen) went on to win the full 10km in an exciting finish which saw Kevin Payton (Stourbridge CC) narrowly beating son Tom Payton (Cult Racing) into third place.
