2011 European Track Championships Day 2

Sir Chris Hoy's early withdrawal from the European Track Championships compounded a frustrating second day in Apeldoorn for the British sprinters, while the endurance riders looked to consolidate a perfect start in the omnium.
An opening session which also saw Pendleton and Varnish eliminated from the individual sprint medals left only Jason Kenny to contest the evenings semi-finals.
Facing Maximillian Levy, Kenny took the first heat with a great tactical move, only to be matched in the second.

A crash in the restarted third did little to upset Kenny, who quickly dusted himself off and set about making his way to the final - except Levy had other ideas. And in the bronze medal ride-off, despite a trying effort to take it to a third head, Kenny had no answer to Denis Dmitriev.
Meanwhile, a win in the opening event of the omnium for Ed Clancy and fifth for Laura Trott, left Britain with at least an opportunity to match yesterdays medal haul in the remainder of the Championships.
Following solid if not spectacular performances in the points and elimination Clancy sits a provisional third, while Trott won her elimination in style and now sits in third position.
Live coverage continues tomorrow.
