Location: Welwyn, Herts
Event: 13 September 2013
Report: Peter Waghorn/Snowdon Sports
Rain forced the cancellation of the final meeting in this year’s Welwyn Track League series, but that didn’t stop several riders turning up to collect their share of the prize money!
While senior numbers were lower than expected, there was a marked increase in the number of youth category riders which augers well for the future of the league.
The senior competition was won by John McClelland, who took the honours from his Prestige team-mate Kristian Woolf and Welwyn’s Mark Smith.
The league overall is expected to recover in 2014 in numbers and the level of competition as the younger riders move up an age group.
Frank Longstaff (Team Terminator) won the Youth A series by a narrow two-point margin from Connor Woodford (Willesden). The Youth B hroup was a battle between two Welwyn riders, Will Raymond and Michael Parry, with the former taking the overall by 18 points.
Another close-fought contest was in the large C/D/E group with the lead changing hands week by week between the two Welwyn riders Lauren Higham and Christian Manzi. Higham, a very determined racer in her first season of competition, took the overall by a margin of nine points.
