Established in 1949, the Lune Racing Cycling Club has always had a strong tradition of racing at its heart. Over the last 65 years, many young riders who have ridden in Lune colours have gone on to ride at elite level, including some exceptional riders who have turned professional.
Riders who have been club members have ridden in some of the top races in Europe, including the Vuelta Espana and the Belgian classics. An impressive number of Lune alumni have ridden in the Tour of Britain, in its current, and its former guises, such as the Milk Race and the amateur Quaker Oats race.
The club has spawned two national hill climb champions as well as winners of top domestic elite-level races. We have also had riders who have gone on to represent Great Britain in international competitions and in 2014 Scotland in the Commonwealth Games.
The club's current racing contingent participates in regional road races, criteriums, time trials and cyclocross races.
However, the Lune RCC is not just about racing. The club also has a large, and growing, number of recreational riders who enjoy maintaining and improving fitness on sociable club runs with stops at cafes. Many of the club’s riders also enjoy participating in sportives and endurance challenge rides here in the UK and on the continent.
