About our club
We are a very friendly and welcoming amateur cycling club based in Kent. We ride every Saturday morning from Sidcup. Most rides start from Lamorbey Residents Association Hall, 21A Burnt Oak Lane Sidcup DA15 9DB. We welcome adults of all abilities from beginners to experienced. We meet at 8.00am and leave at 8.30am..
Depending upon who is available to lead the groups we often have up to 8 groups of varying speeds and abilities:-
Group 8 Beginners, 15 to 25 miles paced to the slowest rider
Group 7 Improvers, 30 miles at 10-11mph
Group 6 Social 1, 30-40 miles at 12mph
Group 5 Social 2, 30-50 miles at 12-14mph
Group 4 Intermediate with Coffee stop, 40-50 miles at 14-15mph
Group 3 Intermediate, 40-50 miles at 14-15
Group 2 Advanced, 40-60 miles at 15-16mph
Group 1 Race, 40- 65 miles at 18mph
The pace increases as you go up through the groups. Pace is dependent upon the terrain and is therefore often lower than publicised. Some rides incorporate a cafe stop.
We ask that all members donate £1.00 each time they participate in a Saturday club ride, all of the proceeds from this go to our nominated charity, which this year is the Kent Association for the Blind.
Free Tea and Coffee is available in the hall before the rides.
We also have some evening, weekday and Sunday rides, please check with the Secretary for more details.
Come along and try us out, all prospective members are welcome to 4 trial rides after which they will be invited to join the club. All new riders must make themselves known to the ride leader before the ride commences. Riders in our Beginners and Social groups do not need to be members. However, they do not qualify for membership benefits. Membership is compulsory for Intermediate, Advanced and Race riders at £25.00 per year.
We ask all members to wear a Club Jacket or Jersey when riding with us. Members can buy club kit at cost price.
To ride with us your bicycle must be in a safe and roadworthy condition, and you must have a good knowledge of the Highway Code.
It is mandatory that you wear a cycle helmet and dress appropriately for the weather. Please carry a water bottle and a spare inner tube. (Don't worry if you can't replace an inner tube, someone will be able to do it for you). For longer rides bring an energy bar, gel or banana to refuel.
Members must hold suitable third party insurance through membership to either British Cycling (Ride, Silver, Gold level) or Cycling UK. We also recognise equivalent insurance from other organisations such as British Triathlon Federation.
Team Sidcup Cycles is affiliated to Cycling UK (CTC), British Cycling.
Cyclists who are already 'first claim' members of another club are welcome to join us for a 'second claim' annual fee of £13.00. This excludes the benefits package.
