About our club

Solent Pirates is a dedicated youth cycling club based along the South coast in West Sussex and Hampshire between Chichester and Portsmouth.

The club is solely focused on aspiring cyclists aged 6 - 16 years and all sessions are run by unpaid but qualified coaches and volunteer helpers. Our older members are Junior riders who have come through the Pirates' "ranks" and still receive Club support, coaching and continue to enjoy the sport with Club friends to the age of 18; and parents, many of whom coach or volunteer in other capacities with the Club.

Our HQ is at Thorney Island where we hold road, CX and MTB skills sessions in a traffic-free and highly supportive environment. We have improved our portacabin base facility there, and have made significant additions to our CX training area - further consolidating our beneficial relationship with landowner hosts, the MOD. We also use a range of other locations including Clanfield, Calshot and Bournemouth Velodromes and others for mountain bike and CX training.

We support our riders in racing on the road, track, CX, and MTB XC. We also run Club rides and enjoy winter sessions on rollers. We have around 16 coaches (including 12 or so regulars) covering various cycling disciplines and many SPYCC volunteers who are invaluable to further support our training sessions.

We want our cyclists to have fun with friends, participate in an exciting and varied sport and improve their skills through coaching sessions and competition.

Sessions vary in both location and activity but the Club Calendar page on our website will always indicate what we will be doing and where.
