About our club
Gower Riders is a friendly, family orientated cycling club based in Swansea. We were established in September 2012 and during that time, we have developed a range of opportunities which have catered for cyclists of all ages, and all abilities. This has included skill development sessions, club rides and fitness sessions (in person and virtual), covering almost every discipline in the sport, but most notably road, cyclo-cross and MTB.
Over the past 10 years we have also continued to be very active participant in races, with riders of all ages competing in a variety of events, especially cyclo-cross and closed road/CRIT.
At present, we deliver weekly activities for members. Our most popular activity at the moment is our Saturday morning recreational ride known as the 'Family Club Ride' which welcomes club members and non-members to a fun, easy-paced, social, recreational ride of around 10-15 miles, which is almost entirely on cycle paths. These are incredibly popular with family members, regardless of age, ability and how fast you can ride! These rides also include a refreshment stop at a local cafe as everyone loves coffee, cake and ice cream!
Alongside these rides, we sometimes offer a more advanced ride for older, more competent children and family members. These rides are longer, the pace is a little quicker, but will also feature a stop at the same coffee shop as the Club Family Ride.
The other popular activity being offered at the moment is our fun GoRide skills session which takes place on a Saturday morning, usually once a month. These sessions, which take place at Gowerton Comprehensive School, are aimed at children aged 6-16 and cover all the key skills needed to help young riders become more competent cyclists. The skills include balance, coordination, braking, gearing, group riding, communication and general bike handling - the fundamental skills required to support the recreational rides which take place regularly and also, the many races which take place throughout the year.
The club also offers a variety of other occasional opportunities such as cyclo-cross skills and race sessions/event as well as MTB and off-road rides. Also, many of our members enjoy longer road rides which can be opened up to others.
All coached sessions are led by British Cycling accredited coaches with support from the club's own enthusiastic and committed Welsh Cycling Young Ambassadors and volunteers, who have all been DBS checked and are qualified first-aiders.
