About our club
Dragon Riders BMX was formed in early 2014 after redevelopment of the recycling facility in Rhyl and completion of the new Marsh Track cycling center of excellence. Marsh tracks comprises a 1.3km closed circuit road track, MTB track and a national standard BMX track. The facility is fully equipped with onsite dedicated parking, offices, workshop toilets and changing facilities. Dragon Riders BMX operates and maintains the BMX track on behalf of Marsh tracks. The club is the only BMX race club in north and mid Wales and is heavily engaged in promoting the sport of BMX racing and community involvement through BMX riding.
In our first year, we achieved success at Regional and Club level at Novice and Expert level, our youngest competitor being just 6 years old. Over the past few years we have worked on building our coaching program and membership numbers. In 2019 we took a record number of 13 riders to the BMX British Championships!
We run open sessions twice or three times a week (weather dependent) for club members and the general public. We also have two British Cycling qualified BMX coaches who deliver coaching sessions from beginner to expert level riders. On top of our club work we also work closely with community groups, the local authority, North Wales Police, local schools and the URDD to introduce young people to the sport, and to promote self confidence, discipline and social skills.
Our goals for 2022 and beyond are as follows:
1. To ensure we invest in our facility and continue our yearly track upgrade program.
2. To introduce more up and coming riders to club, regional and national level racing.
3. Continue to grow our winter race series and hold bring regional racing to north wales.
4. Grow our club by engaging with the local community to get more riders enjoying BMX.
5. Work with Welsh Cycling to develop BMX regionally within Wales.
