Andy Cook was today elected as British Cycling’s Non-Executive Director by the federation’s National Council at its annual general meeting in Birmingham.

Andy has been a Director on the board for the past three years, originally taking up a post with British Cycling in 2005 for their ‘Every day Cycling’ programme, before becoming president of the UCI ‘Cycling for all’ Commission’ for several years. He has also previously been the Chair of Cycling UK and spent many years on the South Region Board. In addition to his role, Andy has been a British Cycling member for over 40 years, organising many cycling races during that time, and has number of national tandem titles with his wife, Jacqui.

He was elected uncontested and will serve for the next three years.

Following his election, he said: 

“Cycling is not just a pastime for me; it’s a way of life. I come from a traditional cycling family, and the sport is quite literally in my blood. My passion for cycling, and especially for supporting the incredible volunteers who form the backbone of our sport, remains as strong as ever.

“The cycling landscape is very different from when I first started, and our sport must evolve to keep pace with those changes. This is where I believe my experience—both as a lifelong cyclist and as a director—can bring value. I am committed to preserving the best of our traditional values, where they remain relevant, while also driving forward the necessary changes that will help our organisation and our sport thrive in the future. There is a palpable sense of positivity and momentum within the organisation that gives me confidence in our collective future.”

Chris Landon was also re-elected for his fourth time on the Board as Chair, nominated by Welsh Cycling.

During the meeting, Chair Frank Slevin welcomed Lee Gibbons (Independent Director), Rebecca McNeill (Independent Director) and Nasser Al-Tell (Co-opted Director) to their first National Council.

The Sunday Mirror Trophy, for the British Cycling region which has seen the greatest membership growth in the past year, was also presented to Sandy Gilchrist and Nick Rennie on behalf of Scotland during the meeting.
