Track cycling has become more popular since Great Britain Cycling Teams success in the Olympics. This has inspired cyclists of all ages and abilities to have a go on a velodrome. Introduction to Coaching Track supports the foundation skills for track riding. 


What can I do with the qualification?

As an Activity Coach in Track you can support riders to development the fundamental techniques for Track. 

What?

Track and can deliver coaching activities to develop foundation skills including individual and pairs riding skills using a fixed wheel bike. This includes moving off, controlled stop, observation, riding out of the saddle and following/riding side by side in pairs.

This is ideal for coaches who will be coaching novice or beginner track riders.

Where?

Indoor and outdoor velodromes.

Who?

1 to 16 riders per session.

Requirements

Minimum age 14 years*
Independent coaching at 18 years
Coaching experience Not required, but it might be helpful if you have seen or been involved in some coaching activity, even in another sport.
Riding experience Experience of riding a velodrome.
Equipment A fixed wheel track bike. The bike should be in good working order.  The bike should meet the requirements of venue operating procedures.

You will also need a helmet.
First Aid It is good practice to hold a First Aid certificate, if you are coaching independently. If you wish to be covered by British Cycling Coaches insurance, you will need an Emergency First Aid.

This course is the start of the pathway in off-road, and on completion you can then access the Coaching in Context Track course.

The full course cost is £210 for Introduction to Coaching - Track.

Please note the course price will be increasing to £295 from January 2025.
